Pandemic or not, county towns plan to have Beggars’ Night this weekend as follows:
- Churdan – Friday, Oct. 30 ~ Trunk ‘n Treat at Paton-Churdan School from 5 to 6 pm, with Beggar’s Night in town from 5 to 7 pm
- Scranton – Saturday, Oct. 31 ~ 5 – 7 pm
- Rippey – Saturday, Oct. 31 ~ 5:30 – 6:30 pm. Trunk ‘n Treat at the Rippey Community Center. Grab and Go pork loin meal sponsored by Rippey Sesquicentennial Committee.
- Jefferson – Saturday, Oct. 31 ~ 5 – 7 pm.
Gospel Open Bible Church is hosting Trunk or Treat Saturday from 5 to 7 pm, offering “safe fun for the whole family.” Along with Halloween treats, there will be a petting zoo, a “Bible House” created by the church youth group, and a fire engine and police car for children to see “up close.” Tacon Madre, the taco truck, will sell a supper during the event.
The Jefferson park & recreation department is replacing its Halloween party at the community center with a come-and-go Halloween Hike Thursday, Oct. 29, at Daubendiek Park. Pre-registration is encouraged at Greene County Community Center. Same-day registration and sign in will begin at 3:45, with activities from 4 to 5 pm.
The Churdan public library staff is hosting a virtual Halloween costume contest for all ages.
Patrons can a picture in their Halloween costume and bring it to the Churdan Library, text it to Marilyn Tilley, or send it as a personal message on the Churdan Library’s Facebook page. Be sure to include your name and phone number. All pictures must be received by October 31.
Categories include funniest, cutest, scariest, ugliest, most original, and “other.” A committee of judges will determine the winners the first week of November. Winners will be called to pick up their prize and pictures of the winners will be posted on Facebook.
Persons who want to bribe the judges can bargain with Joleen Killeen, Rita O’Bryan, and Marsha Subbert.
